The General Store

The General Store is our HSA school store.  The General Store provides students with the opportunity to purchase snacks, school supplies and other fun items.  It also give the teachers an opportunity to hand out rewards to their students in the form of store coupons.  The main purpose of the General Store is to provide the children with real life experiences in which to apply basic skills such as: spending money wisely,  counting money and making change.  We want our students to develop a sense of job responsibility as a store employee.  Also, to provide knowledge of economic concepts such as: supply and demand; inventory management and customer relations.

Students at the academy will be responsible for running the General Store with Mrs. Walton providing support and guidance.   All General Store employees must be responsible students, with good attendance records, neat handwriting and be able to add decimals.  We have two positions available.  The store manager is a 5th or 6th grade student who will oversee the store, inventory, and employees.  The cashier, any student between 3rd and 6th grade,  will take care of all customer transactions. We will have a total of 12 positions to be filled ( 4 managers and 8 cashiers).  The manager and cashiers will work with Mrs. Walton to keep the store inventory neat and filled.

The General Store will be opened from September 20th through May 2nd.  The first day of school, September 13th, will be a stocking and training day, students are expected to work their entire shift that day.  The store will not be opened on the last day of school, this is our Field Days.  Starting on September 20th there will be an ad on the board that will change every four weeks.  This will show store inventory: items being sold and prices.  We would like to open the store during lunch time this year.  We are asking store employees who are interested to sign up to work one lunch every four weeks.  This means they would come to Mrs. Walton to eat lunch and work the store, managers would work as cashiers during the lunch shift.

Store hours:  9:00 - 9:25 all students are welcome
                       12:35 - 12:50 all students are welcome
3:05 - 4:00 all students who are not in a club

Students who are in a club must come to the store during the morning or lunch shift.  There is not enough time for them to stop at the store and get to their club on time.  Please talk with your children about this so they understand and clubs can start on time and have enough time to complete all they need to do.
