Dance
club for Pre-K to 2nd grade
We
will focus mainly on Ballet, Jazz, and Musical Theatre styles of dance.
Ballet will consist of traditional ballet technique - adagio, allegro,
center barre, and combinations of steps. Students will start to learn
the proper French vocabulary of ballet, while also developing strength,
grace, poise, and discipline. Jazz is a dance form that appeals to
everyone because of its energy, variety, and vitality. Class curriculum
is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement.
Musical Theatre will be used to supplement basic Jazz dance technique
with elements of character expression and acting through dancing, as
part of a foundation for dance for the theatre. Students will utilize
their musical theater dance training by participating in a performance
with the HSA Drama Club.
We
will begin class each week with a warm-up to develop strength, flexibility,
correct alignment and coordination, followed by across the floor, and
dance combinations. Often fun dance games will be used to learn new steps
and reinforce technique.
Please
provide your dancer with the following items:

A pink or black leotard (an attached or separate ballet skirt is also
acceptable)
•
Pink leather ballet slippers
•
White, pink, black, or nude tights
•
Hair elastics/clips
•
A water bottle
